  I had paid little attention to my pension arrangements during a working life where I ran several of my own companies and was both was self-employed and an employee for periods. Frankly I was suspicious of “financial advisers” during the bad old days of the 70s, 80s and 90s when they were nothing more than insurance salesman more motivated by commission payments than their clients’ well-being.

  I was introduced to Nick Self at IFA in Bishop’s Stortford a few years ago by my accountant of the time.  I was then operating as a limited company doing IT consulting and had several pension investments that had been abandoned over the years. I was by now 60 years old and starting to become concerned about my retirement. Nick helped me to consolidate all my investments into a new “Platform” and I started making regular payments into a private pension.

  Nick made me aware that my company could pay money into my pension scheme, get tax relief and a contribution from the government which sounded almost too good to be true.
  I was able to start building a reasonable pension pot for the first time, something I thought I had left too late. Nick advised me to change investments as economic conditions changed and I found that the money I saved (or made) far exceeded the fees I paid. I am now retired with a regular private pension that whilst modest (due to starting late) I would not have otherwise have achieved.
